Shibuya Crossing is now one of Tokyo’s most famous visual icons, packed with pedestrians, huge screens, bright signs, and fast-moving city energy. But decades ago, it looked much more modest. The roads were still busy, buses and classic cars moved through the junction, and people crossed in formal everyday clothing. What feels strange is that the same urban rhythm was already there, just without the modern digital glow. The image shows how a normal city intersection slowly became a global symbol of modern Tokyo.
